A weekend getaway for ex-mormons in a repurposed church building

The Details

There's an old church in Eureka, Utah that's been converted into the coolest Airbnb. We (White Cat Prophecy from Twitter and Amy + Maddie from the FHE Podcast) are renting it for a weekend this summer to have fun, celebrate religious deconstruction, and hopefully raise a little money for LGBT youth.

Loose schedule (dates 8/11-8/13)

  • Friday night, 8/11: Private Acoustic Concert with Mindy Gledhill

  • Saturday afternoon 8/12: Breathwork Class

  • Saturday evening: Temple Video Reboot Drinking Game

  • Saturday night: Weird Mormon Movie Night

  • Sunday morning 8/13: the last chapel cleanup you'll ever have to help with

Activities available whenever

  • Exmormon Cards Against Humanity

  • Vintage weird Mormon board games

  • Games that have nothing to do with Mormonism :)

  • Outdoor day activities within a short drive

  • Literally any other [harmless] sacrilegious shit that will help you in your processing

WHAT THIS IS

  • A sleepover with a couple dozen of your best exmo friends

  • A chance to eat, drink, and be merry.

  • A chance to make some NEW memories in an LDS church building that don’t involve religious coercion, dogma, or trauma

  • A safe weekend to relax and have fun. (We're tightly vetting the guest list and limiting it to a mostly-female group of people we know personally.)

What this isn't

  • A chance to trash an LDS church (the building is someone’s livelihood now)

  • Some kind of group sex/swinger thing. Don't make this weird.

  • An all-inclusive retreat (we've set up a couple cool activities, but think of it as a bunch of friends splitting an Airbnb for a fun weekend. You'll be responsible for some of your food—we'll provide more details.)

  • A way for us or anyone else to earn money—any extra proceeds are going to the Trevor Project

rules and other shit you should know

  • Be respectful of everybody else. Anyone making people feel uncomfortable will be kicked out.

  • Be respectful of the current owners of the building by treating the accommodations with respect.

  • No smoking anything in the building.

  • There's only so much space, so spots are going to be limited.

  • Limiting spots will also allow us to be mindful of who's coming and ensure a safe/comfortable atmosphere for everyone.

  • There are a bunch of bedrooms with varying numbers of beds and such. Beds and rooms are first come first served, and we suggest bringing a pad so you can sleep sleepover-style if you want.

QUICK NOTE

Leaving the church entails a lot of tough life decisions, some of which come with financial challenges. If you've been invited but have outside financial challenges that make $100 unjustifiable, just let us know and we can cover it. No explanation needed—we trust you.

That way, we can send you info.If you want to bring a plus one, you're welcome to—each person is $100 and for everyone's safety we need to meet (in person or over Zoom) them beforehand.Let us know if you don't have Venmo and need to pay a different way.
